There has probably been a violation of Swedish airspace by a drone. It happened in connection with a Russian military ship being in Öresund in Swedish territorial waters, says Minister of Defense Pål Jonson (M) to SVT Nyheter.

The Minister of Defense is asked directly which country he believes the drone belongs to.

Probably Russia, given that there was a Russian military ship in the immediate vicinity of where this incident took place, says Jonson.

The incident is being investigated.

The Swedish Armed Forces said that a suspicious drone flight was discovered by a Swedish Navy ship while patrolling in Öresund.

"Following the observation, the Armed Forces took countermeasures to disrupt the suspected drone. Contact with the drone was subsequently lost," the Armed Forces said in a press release.

No further drones have been observed. The Armed Forces are investigating whether the incident constitutes a violation of the Access Ordinance.

“Worked perfectly”

Guillaume Vernet, spokesman for the French General Staff, says the drone was disrupted on Wednesday, about 13 kilometers from the nuclear-powered French aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle.

The Swedish systems worked perfectly and did not interfere with the activities on board, Vernet told AFP.

The aircraft carrier battle group is equipped with its own protection systems, but when it enters a partner's territorial waters, it is subject to the host nation's protection, as in this case.

Drones can be handled in several ways. "Jamming" means using electronic methods to disrupt communication between the drone and its pilot or navigation system.
