SMHI issued an orange warning earlier for rain similar to cloudbursts over large parts of Öland and southeastern Götaland, which was removed around lunchtime. The rain moved in along the coast during the morning to then head north and subside somewhat.
Rain is often very local and in some areas 80 millimeters were expected, which corresponds to a month's rain in July. At most, SMHI has so far measured 73.9 millimeters in Kosta, followed by 55.5 in Moheda and 54 in Orrefors. They have also seen private measurements of over 80 millimeters.
I have not seen many consequences of this rain. I have seen some campsites in the Kalmar area and on Öland that had quite a lot of standing water during the night, says Charlotta Eriksson, duty meteorologist at SMHI.
A yellow warning for a larger area in eastern Götaland is still issued and applies during the afternoon. The warning extends north of Jönköping down to northern Blekinge, where the warning until Wednesday morning applied to the entire county.
At the same time, the heat continues to hold a grip on northern Sweden where the thermometer shows over 30 degrees. An orange warning for high temperatures is issued in northeastern Västerbotten and parts of eastern Norrbotten until Friday. Likewise, a yellow warning applies for eastern Västerbotten and large parts of northern Västernorrland.
It looks like this high pressure will start to break down towards the weekend. Already now, we will start to get some afternoon showers, says Charlotta Eriksson.
