According to meteorologists, the ongoing heat wave can continue for ten days. On the Alps' highest mountain Mont Blanc, which is located on the border between France and Italy, unusual plus degrees were measured during Saturday. At Colle Major at an altitude of 4,750 meters, the research station's measurement showed plus 1.4 degrees.

Also in August 2024, record values were noted with over 33 hours above the freezing point, which researchers see as clear signs of climate change.
