The Arlington Fire Department, which serves the Pentagon's massive building, said on X that it had dispatched a special team. Pentagon spokesman Sean Parnell told CNN that warning systems "have detected air quality issues" and that a large number of people have been evacuated.
About an hour later, CNN, citing sources within the Pentagon, said it was a false alarm.
