Hans-Jacob Nilsson is awarded the prize Translation of the Year for his translation of George Eliot's novel "Middlemarch".

The jury writes in its motivation that Nilsson with his "stylish word choice and phenomenal sentence constructions shows the richness and range of the Swedish language and that the language is constantly in motion, which suits extremely well for a novel about a society in change"

Hans-Jacob Nilsson was born in 1949 and grew up in Stockholm, but has been living on northern Öland for 30 years. He is, among other things, known for his translations of Thomas Pynchon and Philip Roth.

This year's translation was established in 2010 and has been awarded since 2019 in a collaboration between the Natur & Kultur foundation and the Swedish Writers' Association. The prize was awarded on Thursday at the Book Fair in Göteborg.

The prize amount is 100,000 kronor.
