A boy and a girl have been arrested on suspicion of serious weapons offenses and attempted murder. The girl was previously unknown to the police, according to Kristoffer Olofsson at Södertälje police.

On Wednesday afternoon, two hand grenades were found in Södertälje, according to Ekot.

The boy and girl, who are 15 and 16 years old, are suspected of serious weapons offenses and attempted murder after Tuesday's shooting in Hovsjö in Södertälje.

According to the police, the girl was previously unknown to the police.

It was late on Tuesday afternoon that the police were alerted by people who said they had observed an outdoor shooting. A young man had been shot several times and was taken to hospital.

He is seriously injured, but the situation is, as far as I know, stable at present, says Kristoffer Olofsson, deputy local police chief in Södertälje.

Hand grenade found

On Wednesday, another incident occurred when two hand grenades were found in the Geneta district of Södertälje. They were found in connection with an investigation related to the recent violent crimes, according to Ekot in Sveriges Radio.

We see that it is connected to the crimes that have occurred, and it's very good that we also find these hand grenades before they are used, says Max Åkerwall at the police to the channel.

On July 6, the police established a visitation zone in parts of Södertälje after a man was shot dead in the Blombacka area on July 2. The visitation zone was lifted last Friday, and since then, several serious violent crimes have been committed.

On Monday evening, the police received an alarm at around 20:00. Then, an object had been thrown into a store and detonated. A woman was seriously injured, but her condition is said to be stable, according to Kristoffer Olofsson.

After the explosion, two people were also arrested in that case, according to the Prosecution Authority, which states that both are of legal age, but under 18 years old.

The two are suspected of attempted serious weapons offenses and preparations for murder. One of them is also suspected of attempted murder, according to the Prosecution Authority.

Investigating connections

The police are now mapping the two crimes to assess in what context they have occurred.

But we are investigating the crimes as if they have connections to ongoing conflicts in Södertälje, says Kristoffer Olofsson.

We have good hopes of being able to investigate and clear up these crimes.
