Terror-listed Hamas has agreed to the US plan for a ceasefire in Gaza, sources close to Hamas negotiators tell the news agency Reuters.
But the US envoy Steve Witkoff denies the reports.
What I've seen from Hamas is a disappointment and completely unacceptable, he tells Axios.
He says that Israel is ready to agree to a temporary ceasefire on the condition that "half of the living and dead hostages" would be allowed to return to Israel.
The agreement is on the table. Hamas should accept it.
According to earlier reports from Palestinian sources to AFP, the American proposal would, among other things, involve a 70-day ceasefire and the release of ten Israeli hostages, as well as Israel partially withdrawing its military from Gaza.
Israeli media writes, citing sources within the country's negotiating group, that Israel cannot accept the proposal that has been presented.
"Hamas has set impossible conditions," the source is quoted as saying.
