Hardly unexpected, but it also says a lot about how quickly the striker has risen through the ranks when it comes to recognition and popularity.
It's only been a few years since he was a fairly edgy substitute who got the chance from time to time during Janne Andersson's tenure as national team coach.
Today he is a name known throughout the football world after his goal-scoring exploits at Sporting and as an important player in the Arsenal team that won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
And above all, from a Swedish perspective, he was the man who took the national team to the World Cup. The hat-trick against Ukraine was followed by the late 3-2 goal against Poland - one of the most emotionally powerful moments in modern Swedish national team history.
"It's flattering"
In other words, it's no wonder that it's the shirt with his name on the back that Swedish national team fans covet the most.
"It feels extremely fun that people want to buy the Swedish football shirt with my name on it. It's flattering," says Gyökeres at a press conference at the World Cup base in Dallas.
According to TV4 Football Channel, every second shirt sold is one that says Gyökeres on it.
"I've heard that friends and family have had difficulty getting hold of the shirt," says the striker.
Player after player has this week pointed out how important he is to the national team's success in the World Cup. He is aware of his importance - but in a healthy way. When asked if he feels pressure to deliver, he replies:
"Yes. It's fun. I'm looking forward to it."
The difference in the pressure you have at Arsenal versus the national team?
"It's hard to compare, but it's clear that it's a different pressure. There are fewer matches, it doesn't happen that often that you play a World Cup."
Sufficient rest
At Arsenal he is often the lone striker. Graham Potter is betting on two in the national team; in a best-case scenario it would be Viktor Gyökeres and Alexander Isak together at the top.
"It makes it a lot easier when you're low, get the ball and have to make a transition. Then it feels like you have more support. It's easier to get out of situations with two forwards."
"It is also easier to put the pressure together and cover areas. Then there are also advantages to playing as a lone 'striker'. It can be easier in the game structure with more midfielders. It is like with everything, there are advantages and disadvantages."
The long and successful season with Arsenal only ended on May 30.
Have you had the recovery you needed?
"I got a few days off. That was enough. With it being the World Cup, I don't think it's good to rest too much. I think it's better to keep the body moving."
The World Cup opener will be played against Tunisia in Monterrey at 4:00 a.m. Monday in Monterrey.
