He has just helped take Sweden to the B-division in the Nations League. Now, football striker Viktor Gyökeres can be named Athlete of the Year at the Sports Gala.
The 26-year-old is one of the nominees, along with Armand Duplantis, athletics, Victor Lindgren, shooting, and Truls Möregårdh, table tennis.
Gyökeres has – just like the others – had a successful year. The star has scored 23 goals in 18 matches for Sporting Lisbon and also five goals in five Nations League matches for the national team.
The star-studded lineup is also present among the nominees on the women's side; Sarah Sjöström, swimming, Jenny Rissveds, mountain biking, Fridolina Rolfö, football, and Isabelle Haak, volleyball.
The gala takes place on January 20.
