"To gain further distance and avoid shifting focus in the ongoing election campaign, I will ask to deposit my access card and computer at the Government Offices during parental leave," he writes in the post on Facebook.
Expo magazine revealed on Thursday that Gellerbrant's partner, who moved from Russia to Sweden in 2006, has for ten years shared articles and posts with Russian narratives from Russian state agencies and the news service RT, as well as from other channels known for Russian propaganda and disinformation. She has also allegedly praised Russian President Vladimir Putin.
“Obvious sarcasm”
In the Facebook post, Gellerbrant writes that these are "claims and isolated information" aimed at "making her person suspicious based on her origin in Russia."
“She describes February 24, 2022 on her social media as the worst day of her life,” Gellerbrant writes, referring to the date of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine. He points out that his partner’s social media posts express criticism of the Russian regime.
He also writes that Expo has published old posts from social media that have been reproduced without context, and without explaining what, according to his partner, is “obvious sarcasm and irony”. He accuses the magazine of “sowing doubts about loyalties and vulnerabilities, not least when it comes to the role I have in the Government Offices”.
Transparent
Gellerbrant states that he has been transparent within the framework of the security clearance at the Government Offices, and that it is obvious that issues about family and close relatives are discussed there.
"The ongoing drive has placed an inhuman strain on my family," Gellerbrant writes further.
The chairman of the Defense Committee, Peter Hultqvist (S), has this week demanded that Gellerbrant and his partner be suspended from the Riksdag and the Government Offices. He has also said that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson should be called to an extraordinary meeting of the committee - which Kristersson in turn rejects.
Sweden Democrats party leader Jimmie Åkesson told TT on Saturday that they need to get an overall picture of the situation and find out whether Gellerbrant's partner has "pro-Russian views" or not.
