A square of candles and flowers has been set up at one end of Sergels Square in central Stockholm. The square is growing as more candles are placed out.
Sakariya Hirsi from the organization Collective Sorrow is the master of ceremonies and one of the organizers of Friday evening's manifestation, held for the victims in Örebro and against racism.
The location where the act took place, a school with adult education and many students with immigrant backgrounds, is significant according to him.
I think many people feel that if it happened in an SFI school, Komvux or somewhere else where many people want to create a future, then it can happen anywhere else where people want to do the same.
There is a fear that this can happen anywhere, at any time.
Anger and Sorrow
One of the speakers at the manifestation is nurse Najah Omar. She was acquainted with one of the victims in Örebro.
The individual I know is a mother who dropped off her children at daycare and was then shot. She had hardly any relatives in Örebro and we found out she was dead the day after. Who will pick up the children? she says, visibly moved.
I feel too much anger and sorrow to be able to express myself correctly right now.
"Does not exist in a vacuum"
Another person who has attended the manifestation is Daniel Gustafson, who is from Örebro himself. According to him, the event reflects movements and opinions that exist in society.
People talk about him (the perpetrator) as a lone wolf, that it's just an isolated case, but I think he is influenced by the opinions and the society we live in. He does not exist in a vacuum.
