The Swedish swimming star, who made a comeback this spring after giving birth, finished second in 23.86 seconds.
In addition to the victory, Gretchen Walsh also erased Kate Douglass' previous world record, which Douglass had set nine days ago, of 23.59. Douglass, in turn, had broken Sjöström's previous record from 2023, 23.61.
Walsh's new world record time is 23.55.
The competition in Italy is Sarah Sjöström's tune-up for the European Championships in Paris later this summer.
