Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen said in a speech on Monday that US plans to take over Greenland are completely unacceptable and that Greenlanders are suffering because of uncertainty about what will happen.

In the speech in the Greenlandic parliament, Nielsen criticized US President Donald Trump and his repeated proposals to buy Greenland.

Nielsen also noted that the statements have caused great concern among the island's population.

Some of our residents have serious sleep problems, the children feel the adults' worry and anxiety, and we all live in constant uncertainty about what might happen tomorrow, he said, adding:

On behalf of the Greenlandic government, we want to say it very clearly. This is completely unacceptable. And we have said that clearly and distinctly.
