"We don't want to be Americans, we don't want to be Danes, we want to be Greenlanders." This is what the leaders of all five parties in the Greenlandic parliament wrote in a joint statement.

In the statement, the party leaders demand that the U.S.'s "contempt" for Greenland must end and emphasize that no outside countries should interfere in Greenland's affairs, the newspaper Sermitsiaq reports.

"The work on the future of Greenland is taking place in dialogue with the Greenlandic people and is being prepared based on international law and the Home Rule Act. No other countries are allowed to interfere in this. We must determine the future of our country ourselves, without pressure for a quick decision, delays or interference from other countries," they write.
