The budget aims for Sweden to achieve the climate goals.
In this budget, we are presenting a climate offensive, says the Green Party's economic policy spokesperson Janine Alm Ericson.
With the Green Party's budget, emissions are reduced by over 15 million tons by 2030, ten times more than the government, writes the party's spokesperson in a debate article in Dagens Industri.
The increased carbon tax on petrol and diesel is expected to bring in just over four billion kronor in 2026. According to the spokesperson Amanda Lind, this means a price increase of 2.2 kronor at the pump, including an increased quota obligation.
Rural areas are compensated
The tax revenue is intended to go back to households in rural and sparsely populated areas with lower incomes through a transport allowance that is supposed to more than cover the increased cost of the carbon tax.
In rural areas with poor public transport and long distances, the car is necessary, says Lind.
We Greens know that it is possible to make a fair transition.
The budget motion also proposes, like previous budgets, an income-tested support for electric car leasing for residents in rural areas and a, according to the Green Party, more fairly differentiated electric car bonus.
Increased grants
The Green Party also proposes in its budget motion to make a major investment in the investment support Climate Leap and adds a total of 2.5 billion more than the government for 2026.
The climate offensive also includes major infrastructure investments.
The party wants to invest in households by increasing the child allowance by 350 kronor, increasing the study grant by 300 kronor, and an increased housing allowance.
In the budget motion, healthcare and schools also receive more than in the government's budget. The Green Party also proposes that the general government grants to municipalities and regions be increased by 2.5 billion kronor in 2026.
The Green Party's "climate offensive" is financed with borrowed money. Other initiatives are financed with tax increases, such as a reintroduced flight tax and a bank tax. Income tax is increased for high-income earners, but according to the Green Party's economic policy spokesperson, no one with less than 65,000 kronor per month will have their tax increased with the Green Party's policy.
Corrected: In an earlier version, there was an incorrect formulation about increased tax.
