Authorities have granted building permits for the skyscraper "1 Undershaft" in London's financial district City of London, reports the newspaper Financial Times.
This concerns a 74-story office building at 309.6 meters, which will become one of Western Europe's two tallest buildings alongside "The Shard" in London, which was inaugurated in 2012.
"1 Undershaft" is to be built adjacent to the existing skyscraper in the financial district called "The Gherkin", which with its 41 floors and 180-meter height opened its doors in 2003.
The building permit for "1 Undershaft" was delayed since neighbors, including the chairman of the venerable insurance market Lloyd's of London, had objections to the design and the loss of open spaces in the area.
But after certain adjustments that preserve some of the square's area, the project has now been given the green light, according to the newspaper.
