It was announced in July last year that Palestine Action was classified as a terrorist group and banned. This followed an incident in which several activists had broken into an air base in protest against Britain's military support for Israel during the war in Gaza.
Palestine Action took the government to court, alleging a violation of freedom of expression, and in February the High Court, at first instance, ruled in its favour.
But now the Court of Appeal has ruled that the ban and terrorist designation did not break the law. Chief Justice Sue Carr says that Palestine Action is not a non-violent organisation, but a group that seeks to destroy property belonging to defence companies and military bases through secret cells.
