The Social Democrats have demanded that online giants that sell child-like sex dolls be blocked. On Thursday, a unanimous justice committee supported the idea that more must be done.
"Now the Riksdag is forcing the government to act. It is about giving the police a task to improve their work online, including by stopping internet traffic to pages that promote the sexual exploitation of children," says S's legal policy spokesperson Teresa Carvalho.
Major e-commerce sites such as Amazon and Shein have been noted for selling the dolls.
The government has responded that in Sweden, this type of doll can be considered child pornography and thus be illegal to possess or bring into the country.
However, the children's rights organization Child X has demanded tougher action, including allowing the police to expand a so-called blacklist to include more sites.
"I really hope that Gunnar Strömmer acts quickly," says Carvalho, addressing the moderate Minister of Justice.
