Government seeks tighter oversight of vocational higher education programs

According to the directive, the government wants proposals for an ownership and management check similar to that carried out before an independent school is allowed to open.

The investigator will also review how the Swedish Agency for Vocational Education and Training (MYH) can be given more sanctioning options when a programme does not meet quality requirements. MYH can withdraw the permit if a programme has major shortcomings, but the government believes more tools may be needed.

"It is clear that those who want to take advantage of the welfare system also seek out places with the lowest threshold. Now we are putting a stop to unscrupulous actors," says Minister for Upper Secondary Education, Higher Education and Research Lotta Edholm (L) in a written comment.
