Minister of Finance Elisabeth Svantesson (The Moderate Party) and the government want to halve the food VAT, according to information to SVT News.

Already from 1 April next year and until 1 January 2028, it can be reduced from 12 percent to 6 percent. The proposal will be presented by the Tidö parties shortly, according to SVT.

Prior to the upcoming budget, the government has promised 80 billion kronor for new initiatives. What the initiatives entail is not clear, but it will involve both temporary economic measures and structural measures. There will be some tax cuts for both companies and households.

Reduced food VAT has been discussed by the Tidö parties and such a proposal is expected to be included in the upcoming budget proposal.
