Google wants to give children under 13 years access to the company's AI chat service, reports New York Times.

According to emails that The New York Times has accessed, children of parents who have family accounts with Google will get access to the chat service Gemini in the near future.

"We will also notify you when your child uses Gemini for the first time", it states in the email according to the newspaper.

Competing tech companies have recently launched various services to attract users and win market shares in a lucrative market. Children's use of AI has been a debated topic for a longer time. The question of what data AI services collect from users is also a hot potato.

Recently, The Wall Street Journal published an investigation where Meta's AI service talked sex with underage users. Meta denied it but still made changes to its AI service.
