Google will invest 5.5 billion euros, equivalent to just over 60 billion kronor, in Germany – the American search giant's largest investment in the country to date.

The investments include a new data center and expansion of an existing center, both in the central German state of Hesse. The facilities will provide Google with computing power for the company's efforts in artificial intelligence.

Google, owned by the IT giant Alphabet, also plans to expand its offices in Berlin, Frankfurt and Munich.

The company says the investments will create around 9,000 jobs. Google also says it is planning several projects aimed at reducing the company's greenhouse gas emissions, including the purchase of wind and solar power plants.
