Washington's goalkeeper Charlie Lindgren is being praised after New York Rangers were defeated 0-1 at home in Madison Square Garden.

Sunday's only NHL game did not offer any drama in terms of goal figures. In the first period, there were no goals at all. It was not until the second period that the scoreboard started to tick upwards thanks to Washington's Anthony Beauvillier.

Despite New York Rangers consistently having more shots on goal, in the beginning of the game almost twice as many, they did not manage to break the zero against Washington. Much due to the away team's American goalkeeper Charlie Lindgren, who made his first start in goal for the season. In total, he saved 35 shots.

For a second, it felt like I saw it (the puck) go into the goal. I do not know what it was. But then I looked down at my glove and then it was there, so I am quite happy about it, says Lindgren about the save of Swedish Mika Zibanejad's shot to nhl.com.

Zibanejad acknowledges that it was a good save.

I can with good confidence say that I score a goal in eight or nine out of ten such chances, he says.

On social media, Lindgren is being praised for his performance during the game, by both his own and the opposing team's fans.

"Lindgren is back", writes a Washington supporter on X.

"Charlie is inhuman tonight and he seems to only be that when they meet us", comments a New York Rangers supporter under one of the club's posts on the platform.
