The conflict in Gottsunda is described as prolonged and is one of the police's main tracks, according to information to SR P4 Uppland.
Here, two criminal groups, known as Östra and Västra, are competing for the drug market. The conflict has over the years led to multiple shootings in Uppsala and Gottsunda, according to the police.
The leader of Östra is said to be one of the three now suspected of instigation, according to the radio. He was detained days after the triple murder but was released and is now said to have left the country, according to P4's sources. At the same time, several individuals with ties to Västra were reportedly present at the hair salon.
UNT writes that all three victims and several of the suspects have ties to the district. Police officers who spoke to the newspaper say that a local conflict between criminals is a main theory, but that there are also other.
The police do not officially confirm which tracks they are following.
We follow the evidence foremost. That's most important for us, says Johan Segerholm, who leads the work on the triple murder.
He emphasizes that the criminal world is extremely changeable.
Neighborhood-based gangs are not current as before. Today, everything is controlled over phones from clients in other cities or abroad. It's not even certain that those who commit the crimes do it, says Segerholm.
