In a statement after a two-day meeting in Toronto, Canada, the countries' energy ministers said the attacks "create risks to communities and human lives, weaken civilian infrastructure and undermine the energy security of the Ukrainian people."
The statement comes as Russia has intensified its airstrikes on Ukraine's power plants, which Ukrainian officials have described as "systematic energy terrorism." The attacks have repeatedly disrupted electricity supplies and also threatened supplies to Ukraine's nuclear power plants.
The G7 countries also expressed their “unwavering support” for Ukraine and said they would help strengthen the country’s energy resilience, including protecting and repairing key energy facilities, broadening and securing supply chains, and supporting the UN Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in its work on nuclear safety.
