Video review of both Luleå goals during regular time was required.

But both times the referee came back onto the ice and declared that the equalizer - first to 1–1 and then to 2–2 - had taken place in an approved manner.

The last equalizer came when Frölunda was just 16 seconds away from a historic fifth CHL title, forcing overtime with the game tied at 3-3.

In the end, Frölunda secured the title anyway.

After a few minutes of extra time, the Gothenburg team got the chance in numerical superiority - and then the puck hit Jere Innala's stick and a wild celebration broke out.

It was a tight match and a great final between two good teams. We led twice, they came back and we had to decide it in extra time - which was nice, Innala told Viaplay.

I got a good pass from "Henke" (Henrik Tömmernes). I just had to shoot. Nice to see it go in.

Frölunda has had serious form problems in the SHL and had not scored in over two games.

When the team also received a penalty halfway into the CHL final, it looked set for another setback - but while shorthanded the Gothenburg team suddenly struck in front of the home crowd.

The veteran showed the way

Nicklas Lasu managed to intercept a pass in his own zone and skated forward at full speed.

Luleå goalkeeper Matteus Ward moved out to challenge him but could not prevent the veteran from scoring 1-0.

"I managed to read the puck there in my own zone. It's nice to be able to put it there," Lasu told Viaplay.

However, Luleå came back at the start of the third period when Eetu Koivistoinen scored to tie the game at 1-1. The referees reviewed the goal for a suspiciously high stick, but approved it.

However, Frölunda, who had four CHL titles before, responded a few minutes later with another goal - this time on the power play.

Got revenge

Jacob Peterson scored 2-1 with only a few seconds left on the penalty, giving Frölunda the lead again.

It looked like it would be enough until the very end. But with 16 seconds left, after Luleå pulled their goalkeeper, they equalized.

Frölunda requested a review, after which the referees approved Otto Leskinen's 2-2 goal.

It forced overtime with a 3-on-3 game - but Frölunda still had the margins on their side this evening.

Eleven years ago, Luleå won against Frölunda in the very first CHL final.

Now Frölunda got their revenge.
