Frida Karlsson skips the tour: "Doesn't work right now"

Frida Karlsson won the Tour de Ski two years ago. But the upcoming ski tour forces her to abstain due to foot problems. Seven competitions in ten days don't work right now, says national team manager Anders Byström.

There are problems with a foot, an overuse injury, which means that Frida Karlsson cannot participate in the Tour de Ski starting on December 28.

The distance star was forced to alternative training on Tenerife just before the season start and has also abstained from the latest World Cup competitions. But it's not enough to get the former tour winner in shape for the Tour de Ski.

It's clear that rest helps, but it's seven competitions in different styles and forms, which takes a very hard toll on the body. In the situation she is in now, it's not worth taking a chance considering the World Championship. Most important now is to do the rehab properly and come back when she is fully ready, says Anders Byström.

Two abstain, two return

Sprint queen and World Cup second Jonna Sundling is not participating in the Tour de Ski either, like Emma Ribom. They have the World Championship in Trondheim as their goal this winter and will instead spend Christmas at high altitude in Central Europe.

Ebba Andersson, who abstained from the World Cup in Davos to get in shape for the tour, and Linn Svahn, who has been sick, are part of the team.

Only competing in Italy

It's also Calle Halfvarsson who has gotten his back problems under control.

He has undergone a lot of examinations and has gotten a grip on what the problem is. So he feels ready and is very eager to participate in the Tour de Ski. Hope it holds and it looks like it will according to the medical team, says Byström.

The Tour de Ski is being held this winter only in Italy. It starts in Toblach on December 28 and ends up the notorious Alpe Cermis in Val di Fiemme on January 5.

Ladies: Ebba Andersson, Piteå, Maja Dahlqvist, Falun-Borlänge, Johanna Hagström, Ulricehamn, Moa Ilar, Falun-Borlänge, Moa Lundgren, Åsarna, Märta Rosenberg, Trillevallen, Linn Svahn, Östersund.
