Frida Karlsson secured the World Championship bronze after a tight battle with Austria's Teresa Stadlober.
Yet, she didn't look particularly happy when the medal was secured.
It's much more fun to be third than to be fourth. But I was pretty tired after the finish. I didn't even know that Ebba had won. I was in my own little world, says the Swedish cross-country star.
Tough for skiers
The crushing disappointment after the fourth place in Sunday's skiathlon is not visible. The fact that it was 12 seconds to gold on the 10-kilometer distance was more due to the tough course than the personal performance, says Karlsson.
What I've primarily developed this year is my classical technique. And today, it didn't favor those who are strong in that technique.
In the women's two-distance events, much has been about the duel between Ebba Andersson and Therese Johaug, where the Swede has been stronger both times. It will likely spark a desire for revenge in the Norwegian, says Frida Karlsson.
Hoping for the 50km
It ignites a hunger, I think. It would have done so for me, at least. And it's not just her who's got it. So, I believe the 50km will be a real battle.
The World Championship in Trondheim concludes on Sunday with the women's 50km freestyle. The last time Frida Karlsson skied a 50km, in Holmenkollen last year, she won.
I've only skied one 50km before, and it went well. It should suit me. I've been training those kinds of long, extreme interval sessions since I was 18-19 years old.
