The bill came after the rape scandal surrounding Frenchman Dominique Pelicot's exploitation of his wife, where he drugged her and had her raped by scores of other men. France will now have a law similar to those in Sweden, Norway, Canada and Spain, among others.
“A historic victory” and “a major step in the fight against sexual violence,” say the two parliamentarians behind the proposal, Marie-Charlotte Garin from the Ecologists and Véronique Riotton from President Emmanuel Macron’s centrist Renaissance party.
