The French Navy has seized more than 4.8 tons of cocaine from a fishing vessel in the South Pacific, French authorities announced.

The ship, which came from Central America, was reportedly en route to Australia when it was intercepted by French authorities. The crew consisted of ten people from Honduras and one from Ecuador. They will not be prosecuted in France, according to French authorities, but their respective home countries have the option of initiating legal proceedings.

The UN has reported in recent years that criminal networks have become more involved in transporting cocaine and methamphetamine across the Pacific. Large quantities of the drugs come from North and South America and are smuggled into Australia and New Zealand, according to the UN.
