It was French success on the first stage of the Tour de France. Romain Bardet crossed the finish line as number one after five hours, seven minutes and 22 seconds of cycling, and gets to wear the yellow leader's jersey.
The Dutchman Frank van den Broek came in second, and was overjoyed after crossing the finish line.
It's incredible, I have no words. In a few hours, I might realize what we did today, but right now it's just completely incredible, says van den Broek to Eurosport.
Bardet and van den Broek are teammates on team DSM, and had good cooperation during the race. Afterwards, the duo celebrated together.
Third place went to the Belgian Wout van Aert, and the favored Slovenian Tadej Pogacar came in fourth.
The stage took place between Florence and Rimini in 30-degree heat.
