The meeting takes place in connection with the opening of the UN General Assembly in New York next week, when Denmark and the United States are expected to sign the security agreement on Greenland that the countries have agreed on.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen says that he is also on his way to New York.
"On the way across the Atlantic, I think of all of you back home. The families, the children, the young and the elderly," Nielsen writes on Facebook.
Few details of the agreement have been made public, but according to President Donald Trump, the new agreement will give the US "permanent control over security" on the island.
