Denmark and the United States are expected to sign the security agreement on Greenland that the countries agreed on during the meeting in New York.
Greenland's Prime Minister Jens-Frederik Nielsen says he is also on his way to New York.
"On the way across the Atlantic, I think of all of you back home. The families, the children, the young and the elderly," Nielsen writes on Facebook.
Few details about the agreement have been made public, but according to Donald Trump, the new agreement will give the US "permanent control over security" on the island.
