Frederiksen has been one of the most influential voices in support of Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion began.
Three years later, she believes that it is not enough to allocate three percent of GDP to defense, which can be compared to Sweden, which currently stands at 2.4 percent.
The whole point of Nato is that no one can do everything on their own, but that we can do everything together. In my eyes, it requires Europe to arm itself very, very quickly, says Frederiksen.
There has been uncertainty about where the Americans stand on the issue, but I think we should do what we can to hold together. We do not wish in any way that the transatlantic relations change. When it comes to Greenland, we have a dialogue with the Americans, more than that I have nothing to say.
"A hot war"
During a debate conversation in Oslo, Frederiksen stated that "we are not in a cold war, but a hot war" and that she believes Russia is preparing to "attack in other places”.
They have switched to a war economy and the imperialist dreams still live on in Russia, says Frederiksen.
She emphasizes, however, that she does not have any concrete intelligence information pointing to a specific country.
But unfortunately, we are in a time where we must consider that it is a possible scenario.
According to Frederiksen, it is Europe's ability to quickly arm itself that will determine whether the scenario can become a reality.
"Very big decisions"
Therefore, it is also urgent, she believes.
Europe must make some very big decisions now in the spring. We must, among other things, create a larger fiscal policy space to be able to arm ourselves, and we need to improve our competitiveness.
According to her, discussions are ongoing about what defense guarantees the allies can offer Ukraine. The most notable has been peacekeeping forces in the event of a peace agreement. Neither Denmark nor Sweden has given a final answer to the question.
I generally warn against relying too much on Russia, but it is clear, security guarantees are crucial for Ukraine. In my eyes, a Nato membership is the best security guarantee, but it can also include peacekeeping forces or military presence. There are several things to consider before we can make a decision here.
