France's Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu has presented a new government consisting of 34 ministers, reports French media.

The government has been hastily assembled to be able to hold its first meeting on Tuesday morning. Among the 34 names are both experienced politicians from President Emmanuel Macron's middle ground and conservative cooperation parties that have been part of previous governments and untested cards that have been fetched outside of politics.

Already at the beginning of next week, Lecornu must present a budget for next year. He writes on X that he has presented a powerful government to be able to get a budget into harbor before the turn of the year.

"I thank the women and men who voluntarily engage in this government, regardless of personal gain and party affiliation. One thing matters: the country's best."

The 39-year-old Lecornu, a loyal supporter of Macron, was appointed prime minister by the president on September 10. He resigned on October 6 after his newly formed government fell after just a few hours, but was reinstated on Friday, just four days later.

After a hectic weekend, he has since worked to shake up a new government. How long this will remain is unclear. Macron, whose term ends in 2027, lacks a majority in the deeply divided parliament.

Lecornu will therefore be forced to seek compromises to avoid an immediate vote of no confidence.
