There is a will to gather around a budget before the turn of the year, notes France's Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu. This week's crisis talks so far he describes as "positive". However, the right-wing populist National Rally is being obstructive.

Lecornu, who on Monday announced his resignation, speaks before the further negotiations he will have during the day with the parties to the left.

President Emmanuel Macron gave him on Monday 48 hours to try to solve the acute crisis where no sufficient support has been given to the government that Lecornu has tried to form after his accession in September.

Lecornu believes, however, that the negotiations with the center and right parties since then have been positive.

There is a desire for France to have a budget before December 31. This desire creates a movement and an understanding that apparently makes a dissolution (of parliament) come further away, says Lecornu.

In the evening, he will report back to President Emmanuel Macron on the situation.

The right-wing populist National Rally, led by Jordan Bardella, is, as expected, critical. The party's former leader Marine Le Pen, who has also been a presidential candidate, repeats Bardella's demand for new elections and says that she would "block" all decisions made by a new government, reports AFP.
