France pulls up eurozone growth

The eurozone economy grew unexpectedly in the third quarter after France's figures came in at a record level since 2023.

In the third quarter, eurozone GDP rose by 0.2 percent compared to the previous quarter. This was higher than analysts' expectations, which according to Bloomberg's compilation of forecasts was 0.1 percent.

Compared to the corresponding quarter of 2024, the increase was 1.3 percent, according to Eurostat's new figures.

France's GDP rose 0.5 percent in the quarter and is up 0.9 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Germany's GDP growth in the quarter ended at 0 percent, as expected. Compared to a year ago, however, it is up 0.3 percent.

Later today, the European Central Bank (ECB) will release a new interest rate statement. It is expected that they will again leave interest rates unchanged.
