France's parliament has approved a law that prohibits e-cigarettes for single use.
E-cigarettes, also known as vapes, are considered a gateway to tobacco addiction. They are popular among young people and can contain a lot of nicotine and flavors such as apple and watermelon.
This is a major victory in a double battle that we have fought, says Francesca Pasquini, who is behind the law, and refers to the negative environmental impact of e-cigarettes and the fight for young people's health.
Belgium has previously introduced a ban.
Vapes are becoming increasingly popular in Sweden as well. The sale of liquids for electronic cigarettes was more than six times higher in 2023 than in 2021, according to a report from the Central Association for Alcohol and Drug Information.
