It has been known for some time that the man - who has been identified as a key figure in Foxtrot and described as a close ally of leader Rawa Majid - has been detained in Iraq since the beginning of December.
He is being held in absentia in the Gävle case, suspected of inciting attempted murder. Sweden has requested his extradition.
Six people, all young and some under 18, were shot in the lower body when a suspected 13-year-old boy opened fire on Södra Kungsgatan in Gävle on the night of Saturday, October 4 last year.
The prosecutor has filed a so-called evidentiary case against the boy.
In Iraq, the Foxtrot leader has been convicted of involvement in drug trafficking, according to SVT.
