Before the final shooting, Samuelsson had a podium finish in his own hands.
A clean final shooting would have been enough for at least third place. Instead, it was a nightmare shooting. After four misses, the podium looked far away.
But even the competitors missed, and on the final lap the Swede once again had a chance at third place. However, he was unable to catch up with Norwegian Martin Uldal, and Samuelsson ended up fifth.
On the final shooting, I knew I was far behind the others, so I thought I wasn't stressed. But once I missed two, you get stressed anyway. It was a shame, says Samuelsson.
The placement moves Samuelsson up to second place in the overall World Cup.
Norwegian Sturla Holm Lægreid won in dominant style, just over two minutes ahead of second-place finisher Émilien Jacquelin of France. Both athletes maintained their starting positions throughout the race. It was the Norwegian's third straight World Cup victory.
Martin Ponsilouma was the second-best Swede. He finished 21st after hitting eight targets.
