The alarm about the shooting in Hisings Backa came at 22.40 on June 4 last year. The police were quickly on the scene and found a seriously injured man, who later died at the hospital.
The day after, the police confirmed that it was C Gambino who had been murdered. According to the investigation, at least seven shots were fired at the acclaimed Gothenburg rapper.
Less than a month before the murder, the 26-year-old, who performed with a face mask, received a Grammis for the hip-hop of 2023. Earlier this year, he was posthumously awarded the same prize for 2024.
Connection to gang conflict
The police theory is that the murder has a connection to a long-standing conflict between two criminal gangs in Biskopsgården.
But exactly why the rapper became a target is unclear.
The only thing we have been able to see is that there are connections between people in his proximity and one of these groups. But he himself has not been active in any network according to the investigation, says prosecutor Shahrzad Rahimi.
Have you been able to see any connection with him being a well-known artist?
I can't really comment on that. We have tried to investigate the act itself. Then it's hard for me to comment on what it had to do with his celebrity or his music.
Burned getaway car
It is four men in their 20s who are now being prosecuted. Two of them are suspected of murder or accessory to murder, as well as serious weapons offenses.
A third man is being prosecuted for accessory to murder. He is also suspected, together with the fourth prosecuted man, of having set fire to the getaway car. Both are being prosecuted for serious protection of criminals and serious vandalism by fire.
According to Peter Kron of the police's serious crimes section in Greater Gothenburg, the prosecution has a great signal value. He does not think, however, that the upcoming trial will have a greater impact on the conflict.
It shows that the police are actually doing their job quite well. But I don't think it will change the gang conflict, it's quite constant, he says.
