Both SVT Sport and Expressen report that three players at an Allsvenskan club allegedly planned a match to get rid of their then coach and are now suspected of match-fixing.

Police investigation leader Andreas Morander confirms to TT that three football players were charged with crimes in 2023.

“It’s a preliminary investigation, so I can’t say much,” says Morander.

The investigation is being conducted by a football-related unit within the Stockholm police region called “Operation Counterattack”.

“We are the ones who have taken up this matter and intend to see if it can become a case we take up with the prosecutor, or alternatively close down,” says Morander.

But it may take time before the next step is taken.

“We don’t have enough investigation resources, so it will take some time.”

Morander does not want to comment on Expressen’s report that police searched a house during the investigation.

SVT has spoken to the former national team player, who does not want to comment on the information. He no longer represents the club.

TT has contacted the football club and the Swedish Football Association.
