France's former Prime Minister François Fillon avoids prison, after the country's supreme court demanded a new sentencing assessment.

Previously, Fillon had been sentenced to one year in prison. The new sentence is four years in prison, but conditional.

The case concerns a fake job he gave his wife Penelope, so that she could receive millions of euros in compensation.

The now 71-year-old Fillon must also pay 375,000 euros in fines, and is not allowed to stand for election for five years.
