"I don't understand at all what the Swedish government was thinking when they did this," he tells TV4 Nyheterna.
When the 47th anniversary of the revolution was celebrated at the Iranian embassy in Stockholm, officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs were present, the newspaper Fokus reported.
At the same time, the Swedish government has condemned Iran's regime for human rights violations.
Morgan Johansson, the Social Democrats' foreign policy spokesperson, reacts strongly to the reports that Foreign Ministry officials participated in the event in Stockholm.
"I think it's deeply inappropriate, I think it's deeply offensive, I think it's deeply remarkable," he tells TV4 Nyheterna.
In an email to TT, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' press service writes, among other things:
"Sweden has diplomatic relations with a number of countries where the governance and politics do not correspond to our values, including Iran. We have this in order to safeguard Swedish interests and be able to act in matters important to Sweden, such as our consular cases."
According to the press service, "a small number of officials were present." No one from the Foreign Ministry's political leadership participated.
TT has contacted Foreign Minister Maria Malmer Stenergard for comment.
