A role model and "bridge builder between genres" will receive this year's Folk Music Prize. Musician, singer and violinist Lena Willemark will receive the prize of 100,000 kronor.

"With roots in the traditional music of Älvdalen and the fiddle songs of Ekor Anders, Lena Willemark has made an artistic journey characterized by curiosity, depth and integrity," the jury writes in its justification.

Lena Willemark, born in 1960, is educated at the Royal Academy of Music in Stockholm and has participated in groups such as Frifot, Groupa and Nordan. She is also a national spelman.

The Royal Swedish Academy of Music's Folk Music Prize was established in 2015 and is awarded to a person or ensemble that has had a major impact on folk music in Sweden.
