FMV Places Multi-Billion Ammunition Order with Nammo and Norma

The Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has placed a new multi-billion order for ammunition from Nammo and Norma. At the same time, FMV has signed long-term framework agreements with the manufacturers. This requires long-term thinking, says Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson (The Moderate Party).

The new framework agreements with the two ammunition manufacturers extend over ten years. The purpose is, according to FMV, to enable orders of fine-caliber ammunition over a longer period.

At the same time, it helps the companies to make necessary investments, notes Ulf Kristersson in connection with a visit to Nammo's factory in Karlsborg.

Ammunition manufacturing is very standardized, but it requires enormous quantities. Then long contracts are also required, he says.

It is a major export income for Sweden and a delivery security guarantee for Sweden that we have this ourselves.

The first order within the framework agreements is worth approximately 3.2 billion - 1.8 billion kronor for Nammo and 1.4 billion kronor for Norma.

"Continuous balancing"

Previously, FMV had individual agreements with the two companies on fine-caliber ammunition for approximately 2.8 billion kronor.

Large sums, in other words.

Yes, it is a continuous balancing. But I do not think you should put it against each other, says Ulf Kristersson.

Without, we should be able to defend the welfare, the freedom, the school and the democracy that we hold so high, then we need a defense that can stand for the defense.

"Incredible pressure"

According to Reijo Bragberg, business area manager for fine- and medium-caliber ammunition at Nammo, the long-term nature of the agreements is invaluable.

It is precisely what we need right now. We are in a situation today where all countries in Europe are arming up and filling up ammunition stores that were almost non-existent for a long time, he says.

It means that there is an incredible pressure on the market for all the input goods we need, such as gunpowder and primers. It is often small specialized companies that deliver and today everyone is knocking on their door.
