Australia has warned airlines to be on the lookout when the ships potentially practice with live ammunition in the Tasman Sea. According to Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, China had informed about the potential live firing. The Australian Defense states that it is uncertain whether any live firing has taken place, and according to Albanese, the danger has since passed.
The countries have been in dialogue about information and transparency surrounding China's naval exercises – "especially exercises with live shots", says Foreign Minister Penny Wong. Australian warships and fighter jets have been monitoring the Chinese ships as they passed through international waters in recent days.
The Tasman Sea covers the approximately 200 nautical miles between Australia and New Zealand.
