The countries were elected by the UN General Assembly on Wednesday, where the big surprise was that Germany did not receive enough support to be elected to the Security Council.
The five new countries take over from Denmark, Greece, Panama, Pakistan, and Somalia, which are leaving the Security Council.
Remaining are the five permanent members, the United States, Russia, China, the United Kingdom, and France, as well as the five non-permanent members that took office on January 1 this year for two-year terms - Bahrain, Colombia, the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Latvia and Liberia.
