Five men have been arrested in Germany, suspected of planning a terrorist attack against a Christmas market in the southern parts of the country.

German authorities say the men, from Egypt, Morocco and Syria, were arrested on Friday. They allegedly planned to drive a vehicle into the Christmas market to kill and injure "as many people as possible."

The men are between 22 and 56 years old and are said to have planned the attack in a mosque.

Last year, a car drove into the Christmas market in Magdeburg, killing six people and injuring hundreds.
