A fisherman in Sölvesborg who pulled up 1,000 kilos of eel too much risks prosecution, reports Sveriges Radio P 4 Blekinge.
The fisherman had a permit to pull up 8,000 kilos of eel, but when the Swedish Agency for Marine and Water Management counted how much eel he had sold, they found that he had sold 1,000 kilos more.
The fisherman also exceeded his quota in 2019, but the report was then dropped.
Eel fishing has been prohibited in Sweden since 2007, as the species is acutely endangered. However, 78 fishermen have a license to fish eel.
