A perch with a PFAS value eighteen times higher than the permitted value has been found in a reserve water source within the area of the nuclear power plant in Oskarshamn.

Seven fish have been tested and all had high levels. One of the perch caught there contained 170 micrograms of PFAS per kilogram, reports P4 Kalmar . The limit value is 9.1 micrograms per kilogram.

"What you should think about is what recommendations you have about eating fish you catch yourself. I think you may need to issue some kind of warning there," says Mattias Öberg, associate professor of toxicology at Karolinska Institutet, to the radio.

If there are local drinking water sources or local wells in the area, they should also be analyzed, he says.

The reason for the high values is believed to be that fire drills were held with a fire foam that contained PFAS near the reserve water source, says Désirée Liljevall, press manager at Uniper, which is the majority owner of the OKG nuclear power plant.
